The Exhaust System
A muffler is a component of the exhaust system of a car.
The exhaust system has 3 important functions:
1) Getting the hot and noxious gas from the engine away from the vehicle.
2) Reduce exhaust emission.
3) Reducing the noise generated by the engine.
Engines produce exhaust fumes when running. These fumes will be hot and toxic.
The exhaust system consists of a series of metal pipes designed to take the fumes to the rear of the vehicle where it is safer to be released.
Problems
If any of the tubes split or break, noises will occur and the gases (like carbon monoxide) may be released into the vehicle.
There can also be a smell of petrol.
If the engine noise is too loud you may get pulled over because of the noise.
You will notice a decrease in power and acceleration and decreased efficiency in fuel consumption.
While exhaust systems are built to withstand high pressure and heat conditions they are prone to rust and corrosion over time.
Have your exhaust system checked regularly by our mechanics.
