Engine Oils

Why Engine Oils?

The primary function of engine oil is to reduce metal-to-metal contact resulting in less friction and wear. Friction generates heat, which causes more wear and tear on moving engine parts.

Engines change with age.

After 75,000 klm, it is even more important to choose the best oil  to maximize the life of your engine. Valvoline MaxLife High Mileage 5W-30 Motor Oil  is specially designed to fight the four major causes of engine breakdown:

  • leaks
  • deposits
  • friction
  • sludge.

It also minimises:

  • Power reduction
  • Increased fuel consumption
  • increased Oil Consumption where you need top ups between servicing.

What makes synthetic oil different from conventional oil

Additives added to the base oil are what give the oil the characteristics needed to do its job. Although additives are typically only 15 to 25 percent of the make-up of motor oil, they can impact a lubricant’s performance much more than the base oil.

Highmileage oils have ingredients to take care of older engines,Typically they use a viscosity modifier that is durable and won’t lose viscosity very easily. These oils need to stay thicker longer to protect engine parts.

The recommended frequency of oil changes varies from manufacturer to manufacturer and also sometimes between models

At BJM Mechanical we are up to date with all the recommendations from each manufacturer.

We use Valvoline oils because they are the best available

The company has been in business for over 150 years and are in the forefront of designing the best engine oils for the care of your engine. They are a global company and have products for commercial and private vehicles and also high performance models.

Valvoline will make your engine perform better and last longer

How To Care For Your Car Tyres

Tyre Pressure

First of all is do a fortnightly check of your tyres pressure and bring it back to the pressures recommended by the manufacturers of both your car and the tyres.

The tyre mechanic is very experienced and can guide you.

Tyres lose pressure when the car is driven and even when it is standing still so you will always need to monitor this pressure.

Under-inflated tyres will result in reduced tyre life. A tyre which is regularly about 20% under the recommended pressure will last about 20% less. So if your tyres expected life is 75,000 Km it will only last 60,000 Km.

Also under inflated tyres use more petrol. It takes more effort by the engine to keep the vehicle moving.

Tyre Rotation

Tyre rotation is also necessary because there is usually different wear on front and back tyres and also left and right tyres.

Safety Issue

Since the only point of contact your car has with the road is the size of four hands you should make sure that the condition of your tyres is of paramount importance, Incorrect pressure makes the car more difficult to handle.
So to keep safe:

  • Check tyre pressure regularly
  • Check for uneven wear. If you notice anything consult a tyre professional.

Unbalanced wheels

Uneven wear can also be attributed to incorrect wheel alignment

Ensure a professional checks these regularly.

Driving at high speed can also cause damage to the tyre because of road hazards and the chance of high temperature build up.

Spare Tyre

Maintain the condition of your spare tyre so you will always have a replacement tyre on hand when needed.
